Joy Selak, PhD, CAP®
Joy Selak comes to Rodman & Associates with experience in education, finance, nonprofit leadership, strategic planning and fundraising. She is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy®, a graduate level certification earned through the American College of Financial Services. As a CAP®, Joy has the knowledge and skills needed to help her clients identify and address their philanthropic priorities while bringing to the task an understanding of organizational models and needs.
With two Master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Joy has experience formulating and presenting learning plans that are developmental, effective and measurable, an asset in the design and assessment of giving programs. During 14 years as an Investment Advisor, Joy was a Vice President Investments with Smith Barney and, with her husband, managed over $100 million in assets, specializing in diverse portfolios tailored to their individual clients’ interests and needs.
As a nonprofit leader, Joy has been a founder, trustee, officer and development director. In Austin, Joy was a founder of A Legacy of Giving, a non-profit organization with a mission to grow a new generation of philanthropists among the students of Central Texas. As founder and board President of the San Juan Island Community Foundation, she developed the organization’s grant making, award, evaluation and record keeping protocols. In over 15 years of service on the ZACH Theatre board in Austin, Joy has led multiple committees and served as Board President as the organization completed the $23 million capital campaign and the opening of the Topfer theatre.
